It is one of the oldest and most important Vergilian manuscripts. It is 332 by 323 mm with 309 vellum folios. It was written in rustic capitals with 18 Vaticanus of about 400 CE is slightly older than the Vergilius Romanus of about 450 CE, they differ in their presentation. Despite their similarities in date of production, subject matter and medium, they seem to follow different iconographic models.
